identifeye HEALTH is reimagining healthcare by developing innovative machine learning techniques to democratize access to health insights available in the human eye. identifeye HEALTH collaborated with frog to turn innovative tech into a medical device with a compelling market proposition. The result is a new, fully automated retinal imaging device: identifeye Camera.
Retinal imaging can reveal biomarkers that help healthcare professionals (HCPs) identify early signs of diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions and neurological disorders. By detecting these indicators before the diseases progress, HCPs can intervene earlier, potentially improving patient outcomes. Traditionally, such analysis was conducted by HCPs in specialized eye care centers. With the identifeye Camera, identifeye HEALTH and frog aimed to simplify, accelerate and democratize the process by developing an imaging platform that enables HCPs to capture retinal images in point-of-care (PoC) settings.
As a leading global creative consultancy, frog has a holistic offering that combines experience design, industrial design, digital design, and engineering necessary to envision flagship medical devices that consider the whole product experience and help clients launch.
Working side-by-side, frog and identifeye HEALTH iteratively co-developed the design and interfaces of an innovative platform. frog’s product development expertise drew from identifeye HEALTH’s deep well of primary and secondary research into HCPs across different settings, usability studies and expert insights. This collaboration yielded a compact, foldable, adjustable and easy-to-carry design with automated functionality and an intuitive user interface. As a result, we are enabling providers to confidently deliver quality care in a variety of healthcare settings.

identifeye HEALTH aims to make advanced retinal imaging more accessible by enabling screening in settings beyond specialized ophthalmology clinics, like PoC facilities. We created a user-friendly, ergonomic, portable, battery-operated device that can be easily integrated into existing workflows.
Solution
Retinal screening reimagined
frog partnered with identifeye HEALTH to design the identifeye Camera, a modular retinal imaging connected platform. It features a portable camera system and iPad that runs an identifeye App to control the camera, perform the exam and ensure connectivity.
Outcome
Eye-opening approachability
Minimal and sleek design. Users admire the device’s simplicity and approachable style. Adoption is expected to be widespread in HCP settings, facilitating broader access to advanced eye-health diagnostics and eye-based insights.

The identifeye Camera is identifeye HEALTH's flagship device—the design benchmark for the future.
The design team tested multiple prototypes to dial in the device ergonomics, configuration, form and overall experience. The team’s success is evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive feedback received thus far.
Patients appreciate the device's elegant and inviting design in what can be an intimidating setting. HCPs find the device intuitive and highly ergonomic (e.g., it is adjustable for different users and environments). The device's functional usability was refined through identifeye HEALTH's endless rounds of user testing and the development of the user interface and workflow. Moreover, many HCPs say they look forward to using this PoC device in their daily appointments.
