Storz Modulith
Storz
lightweight ESWL
Swiss company Storz asked frog to design a smaller, lightweight ESWL (Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy) device that lessens patient discomfort and increases ease of use for medical professionals.

Introduced in the 1980s, ESWL machines pulverize painful kidney and gall stones. Unfortunately, these critical machines were big, bulky and difficult to maneuver. Having partnered previously, frog and Storz saw an opportunity to create a higher-end version focused on flexibility, size, and handling.

With extensive experience in the healthcare sector, frog was able to quickly build a rapport with Storz’ design and technology teams that impressed stakeholders, users, and patients. Within a few weeks the team presented a lightweight lithotripsy device that exceeds the standards of patients, doctors, and the highly regulated healthcare sector.

The new mobile Modulith adopts a modern aesthetic and presents a strong design language. The device’s ascending sight lines and customized wheels visually reinforce its small size and versatility. It integrates state-of-the-art technology and ergonomic features, including a movable therapy head and touchscreen for simple aim-and-shoot operation.

To ensure a rapid pay-off for medical providers, the Modulith’s individual components can be used independently, making it a cost-effective purchase even if the number of treatments performed is relatively low.

The Storz Modulth received a Red Dot award in 2011 for product design and a Special Mention for the German Design Award in 2013.
