SAN FRANCISCO—Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) has honored global design and strategy firm, frog, in three categories in the 36th annual International Design Excellence Awards® (IDEA®).
Yibu, an educational play ecosystem born out of experimental research platform frogLabs, has been named a IDEA 2016 top winner in the Children’s Products category. frog’s client work on the all-in-one home monitoring solution LG Smart Security has been awarded IDEA 2016 Bronze in the Home & Bath category. Additional client work with Intesa Sanpaolo to reinvent the retail bank branch experience has been named a finalist in the Service Design category.
IDEA is a premier international design competition that recognizes and promotes design excellence across a wide array of industries and disciplines, sponsored and conducted by the IDSA. Hailed as the “the authority on design”, more than 1,700 design projects from 30-plus countries competed in IDEA 2016.
frog is recognized by IDSA for the following work, which represent studios across three continents:
Yibu: An education play ecosystem that combines the digital and physical world; using digital screen and sensor technology to create a multi-dimensional adventure activity versus a passive viewing experience. Born out of frog’s Shanghai studio, Yibu aims to educate children on the impact human beings have on the environment.
LG Smart Security: Created through the collective innovations of LG Electronics, ADT, and frog, LG Smart Security combines design and technology to create an all-in-one home monitoring solution that is both discreet and beautiful in form. Expected in market this summer, it will serve as a smart home hub, enabling users to connect seamlessly to peripheral devices and control them through one central mobile app.
Intesa Sanpaolo: In an age where retail bank branches are declining in use, Intesa Sanpaolo and frog worked closely with clients and bank staff to redesign the layout of the overall branch experience, as well as the digital experience, and have since rolled out more than 50 redesigned branches in Italy with plans for more this year.
A selection of IDEA 2016 winners will be featured in IDSA’s INNOVATION Magazine: Yearbook of Excellence, on IDSA.org and showcased in an exhibit that opens July 11 at The Henry Ford, also the site of the grand IDEA 2016 Ceremony on August 17.
