April 9 – 11: Thomas Sutton, Vice President of Design, delivered the keynote “Value-based Design: Pushing the Limits of Design in Complex Socio-Technical Systems” at the DMI conference in Bonn. Using examples from this work, his keynote session outlined the emerging practice of Value-Based Design. It is a framework that recognizes that when designing for complex service domains, focusing on individual users is a necessary but insufficient condition for achieving meaningful innovation. To innovate in socio-technical systems, we need to think about value creation from multiple perspectives, drawing on a toolkit that extends well beyond classical user-centered design.

The 3 Percent Movement: La Minicon
April 26: The 3 Percent Movement was born to combat the severe inequity that exists for women and people of color in the creative fields. frogs Oonie Chase (Executive Creative Director) and Linda Quarles (Director, Organization Design) will lead their workshop “Empowering Women Through Radical Empathy” at this year’s LA Minicon.
