Last week we hosted DECKxDESIGN, a party with a challenge and a cause: to build a custom skateboards for auction, with proceeds benefiting Art Start, an organization that builds community via creativity with NYC’s at risk youth. We were blown away by this year’s results, with wild, beautiful and outrageous interpretations by creatives like Karim Rashid, Shop Architects and Staple Design.
We were also thrilled to have the talented and committed team behind Art Start join us as well, including co-Executive Director, Hannah Immerman, and Program Director Mariam Aryai-Rivera, who spoke so beautifully about the positive effect that creativity has on Art Start’s youth.
Check out Core77’s top board picks for categories in both Technical and Novelty, along with rationales from the designers.
Mental Floss also rounded up some of their favorite boards from the evening, including Karim Rashid’s futuristic board, and frog’s very own XY Feng & Jung Soo Park, who created the cheekily named “Skate Moss.”
Attendees admire a custom board by Karim Rashid.
